AZ Emission Testing

If my car emissions test fails what should I check on my car engine?

There are a few things you can check on your car engine if it fails an emissions test:

  • Check your spark plugs. Spark plugs are responsible for igniting the air-fuel mixture in your engine. If they are worn or damaged, they may not be able to ignite the mixture properly, which can cause emissions to increase.
  • Check your oxygen sensors. Oxygen sensors monitor the amount of oxygen in your exhaust. If they are not working properly, they may not be able to provide accurate readings, which can cause emissions to increase.
  • Check your catalytic converter. The catalytic converter helps to reduce emissions by converting harmful gases into less harmful ones. If it is damaged, it may not be able to do its job properly, which can cause emissions to increase.
  • Check your fuel injectors. Fuel injectors deliver fuel to your engine. If they are clogged or dirty, they may not be able to deliver the correct amount of fuel, which can cause emissions to increase.
  • Check your air filter. The air filter helps to clean the air that is entering your engine. If it is dirty, it may not be able to do its job properly, which can cause emissions to increase.

If you check all of these things and you are still having problems, you may need to take your car to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
